Aaliyah was an American singer, actress, and dancer who became one of the most influential R&B artists of the 1990s-early 2000s. Born Aaliyah Dana Haughton on January 16, 1979, in Brooklyn, New York (raised in Detroit, Michigan), she tragically passed away at age 22 on August 25, 2001 in an airplane crash. Her three studio albums – Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number (1994), One in a Million (1996), and Aaliyah (2001) – are considered foundational to modern R&B.
Standing 5’7″ (170 cm) with a US shoe size of 7.5, Aaliyah had well-proportioned feet with defined arches and slim, evenly-aligned toes. Her pedicures trended toward 1990s-2000s-R&B-tomboy-glamour styling – French tips, nude pinks, and occasional bold reds matching her effortlessly-cool-tomboy aesthetic that defined an era.
Her music videos (Are You That Somebody, Try Again, More Than a Woman, Rock the Boat) produced extensive dance choreography and performance content that remains foundational R&B-music-video imagery. Her film appearances in Romeo Must Die (2000) and Queen of the Damned (2002, released posthumously) produced martial-arts-and-supernatural setting content. Her concert performances at MTV, VH1, and Source Awards produced extensive stage footage.
Her Tommy Hilfiger campaigns produced iconic 1990s-fashion-industry advertising photography. Her posthumous releases, anniversary tributes, and various R&B-community homages have continued her musical legacy. Red-carpet appearances during her active career featured her in Tommy Hilfiger, Chloé, and various American designers.
